Beekeeping 101:  Introduction to Successful Beekeeping

Bryan Sternberg has been keeping bees since 2013 in Inver Grove Heights.  In 2016, he entered the honey that the hive produced in the Minnesota State Fair, and won Third Prize for Novices.

In this presentation, Bryan will present information on beekeeping and provide several helpful tips to make your efforts more successful.  The session will cover these topics:

  • The importance of beekeeping to support pollinators for plants and food
  • Hive location and approvals
  • Selecting and obtaining your bees
  • Proper initial equipment
  • Parts of a hive
  • Checking on the health of your apiary and common challenges
  • Harvesting and storing the honey
  • Overwintering
